Improved Rapeseed Flaker

(Chicago, IL) Modern Process Equipment, Inc. (MPE) introduces the Rapeseed Flaker for high capacity oil extraction and/or biodiesel applications. The MPE Rapeseed Flaker prepares the oil seed prior to flaking to enable a higher degree of cell wall rupturing, thereby improving extraction yields and higher process efficiencies. The flaking rolls have self-cleaning mechanisms that prevent agglomeration build-up and the various MPE Flakers can handle high volumes (up to 10 metric tons per hour and larger) of material throughput efficiently and economically.

An integrated variable speed feeder distributes the oil seed evenly across the full width of the rolls, introducing the seed to the grinding rolls in a uniform, “waterfall” fashion.

Thereafter, the rape seed cell walls are ruptured between pairs of corrugated rollers. The roll corrugations are precisely determined based on extensive lab testing to maximize the exposure of lipids and subsequent extraction yields.

Flaking roll gaps are maintained to an unprecedented degree of accuracy and can be adjusted by hand to fine-tune the process in the field. Complete PLC control is available as an option, with up to 24 operator-adjustable recipes controlling all of the process parameters.

Digital roll gap indication, to an accuracy of 0.0005” (12 um), is also available.

For ambient temperature processes, water-cooled grinding rolls are an available option.
